6-foot-10 Rivals150 hoops prospect is nation’s tallest QB, and his team is 7-0

What happens when one of the nation's top power forward recruits decides that he wants to play football in the fall? You end up with one of the tallest quarterbacks of all time, at any level.

As noted by AZ Central, Sunnyslope High (Phoenix, Az.) senior Michael Humphrey is traditionally known as one of the nation's top basketball recruits. A member of the basketball Rivals150 for the class of 2014, Humphrey is a 6-foot-10 power forward who has been recruited by a majority of the nation's major programs. He's a skilled, fundamentally sound prospect who is particularly mobile and athletic, and is expected to excel in college at either Stanford or Arizona.

At the moment, he's more focused on leading Sunnyslope's football program to the promised land, all while towering over all his teammates and opponents. Just two inches short of 7 feet and 205 pounds, Humphrey always has unfettered views of all his receivers and has shown a knack for completing big passes and pulling down the football and scrambling when he needs to.

The results on the field have been impressive, even if Humphrey's continued participation might give heartburn to basketball coaches at Stanford, Arizona and a handful of other basketball programs that still hold out hope of landing Humphrey's signature. The senior has yet to throw an interception and controls the offense for a team that features budding star running back Tim Fryson.

If Sunnyslope finishes with a winning record and playoff berth, Humphrey's involvement will have been transformational. The school hasn't finished north of .500 since 2008 and hasn't hosted such excitement about the fall sport in even longer.

Even if coaches and recruiters are worried about his health, he wouldn't have it any other way.

"All my friends are here. I know all the coaches, my sisters went here … I wouldn't want to go anywhere else," Humphrey told AZ Central.

"Nobody said anything to me, but I knew people were thinking I shouldn't play. They don't know what it's like to be a part of football. It's the best team sport ever, and I love it."
