Cartoonist cartoon compares Redskins name to Nazis and Confederates

Editorial Cartoon by Tom Stiglich

How offensive is the Washington Redskins logo. Well, according to longtime editorial cartoonist Tom Stiglich, it ranks up there with, Nazi swastika and Confederate flag, arguably two of the most recognizable symbols of racism and hatred in world history.

Stiglich’s cartoon appeared in the New York Daily News on Thursday, and there is nothing subliminal about what he is suggesting. The cartoon is captioned with, "Archaic Symbols of Pride and Heritage" and adds more fuel to the fire surrounding the team name and logo.

Numerous groups, including the Oneida Indian Nation, have called for the NFL team to change its team name from the Redskins because they find that label offensive. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and team owner Daniel Synder have listened to the increasing number of people who are dissatisfied with the name, but neither has committed to make the name less offensive to those who are insulted.

Until that occurs, it appears the NFL and its team in Washington will be on the receiving end of this kind of criticism.
