Cincinnati holds midday madness on outdoor court at Fountain Square

Cincinnati broke with tradition Thursday by holding Midday Madness instead of Midnight Madness with its men's and women's basketball teams in occasional rain at Fountain Square.

Cincinnati fans who braved the elements to get up close with the Bearcats were introduced to members of both teams and watched them get after each other a little in 'friendly competitions.'

Coach Mick Cronin's men's team was picked to finish fourth in the new American Athletic Conference.

These might be confusing times for Bearcats fans. Heck, it's confusing for coaches and players, too.

Cincinnati guard Sean Kilpatrick struggled to name all the teams in the new conference when he was put on the spot at media day this week.

Cincinnati is one of five teams from the former Big East to join the new conference this season. The others are Connecticut, Louisville, Rutgers and South Florida.

Memphis is also in the new conference giving it an old Metro Conference feel in some areas, especially when old rivals like Cincinnati and Memphis and Louisville hook up.

But defending national champ Louisville will be in the AAC for just one year before it leaves next season for the ACC and Rutgers will also leave after just one season for the Big Ten.

We can't argue with the Bearcats finishing in the top four in their first year in the AAC. They do boast one of the better guards in the country in Kilpatrick
