Huntering: Torii Hunter’s Fenway Park dive inspires new internet meme

(Getty) First there was planking. Then there was Tebowing. Now society has evolved, though not all that far, and taken to a brand new picture-taking fad that doubles as an internet meme.

Huntering.

As in, taking and posting photos on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and all other forms of social media, reenacting Torii Hunter's memorable dive into the Red Sox bullpen at Fenway Park while attempting to rob David Ortiz of his game-tying grand slam in Game 2.

It was... inevitable.

Since cops aren't always readily available, people have had to make do and in some cases eliminate the celebrating sidekick. Here are a few examples, beginning with a "dive" over a table in science lab.

It's even safe enough to try at home.

This one is equal parts adorable and frightening.

The belt getting caught up on the fence is a nice touch. Realism counts here.

But the meme doesn't stop there. We've also seen an on-going attempt to liven up the original scene with the addition of other characters. Yasiel Puig, Eminem and yes, even Steve Bartman makes an appearance here.

Huntering probably doesn't have the staying power of past sports memes, but it's the in thing to do right now. It's also a nice reminder that in spite of all of the ridiculous bantering that can be overwhelming on the internet, there's still just enough silliness to make it worthwhile.
