Oregon to wear pink helmets and cleats for Breast Cancer Awareness

Oregon, which set the standard for unique uniform combinations, has done it again.

The school and Nike announced Thursday that the Ducks would be wearing pink helmets, socks, gloves and cleats against Washington State on Saturday to honor and raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness month.

“Cancer has touched so many lives and hopefully, together with Nike and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, we can help create awareness and help raise money for the fight against women’s cancers” Oregon Football Head Coach Mark Helfrich said in a statement. “It is an honor to join Coach Yow’s team in a fight that unites us all.”

The team will auction off 25 helmets and all of the proceeds will go to The Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

A week ago, when New Mexico State announced it was wearing pink jerseys, I remarked that it was surprising Oregon hadn’t done the same. Seems like someone at Nike was listening because this is a fantastic idea. The “hot” pink on black is sharp and it’s for a good cause.
