Report: Cowboys looking to deal running back DeMarco Murray before trade deadline

The Indianapolis Colts gave up on Trent Richardson earlier this season. It now appears the Dallas Cowboys are ready to throw in the towel on running back DeMarco Murray.

Murray sustained a knee injury in Dallas’ previous game and is listed as doubtful heading into Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He has missed nine games in the past two years due to injuries, and despite vowing to play in 16 games prior to this season, Murray lasted six games in 2013.

As a result, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting Dallas is interested in unloading Murray.

It is hard to imagine Dallas will get a lot in return for a running back that cannot stay healthy, while the Cowboys are 3-3 entering Sunday's game against Philadelphia and seemingly need Murray to make a playoff run.

Another reason Dallas might be interested in trading Murray is because of its impending salary cap troubles after this season, although he is slated to earn $755,469 ($946,094 salary cap number) in 2014 before becoming a free agent, which is not a significant hit.

Murray has rushed for 428 yards (eighth in the NFL) and three touchdowns this season. If Dallas deals Murray, the Cowboys might be forced to lean on Joseph Randle, who is expected to start against Philadelphia, for the rest of this season.
