There might’ve been a pretty nasty reason for Mario Chalmers’ bad preseason game

There was plenty of fine play to marvel at during Tuesday night's preseason matchup between the Washington Wizards and the two-time-defending world champion Miami Heat in our nation's capital — LeBron James soaring, Bradley Beal scorching, Dwyane Wade detonating, John Wall dishing, and so on. There wasn't, however, very much to write home about for Heat point guard Mario Chalmers, who scored just two points and missed all nine of his field-goal attempts, including an 0 for 7 mark from 3-point range, committed five fouls and matched his four assists with four turnovers in less than 21 minutes of floor time.

Whether you focus on the woeful stat line or the Heat's 18-point defeat, it was a bad night for the famously brash Miami point guard. After the game, he took to Twitter to offer some insight as to why that might have been the case:

Hmm. Gross!

I'm not sure if this means Chalmers is off the diet that he adhered to this offseason as part of a bet with teammates James, Wade and Ray Allen. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if it meant the Kansas product wound up losing a couple pounds more than just the 10 identified in the wager. Oof.

Here's hoping your bad evening didn't get significantly worse overnight, Mario, and that any ill effects from your pregame meal choice have long since ... y'know ... passed. I'd also say I hope that your coaches and teammates will refrain from yelling at you while you're recovering, but I think you and I both know there's precious little chance of that.

(Also: Not pointing any fingers, Verizon Center, but it's probably not a bad idea for us all to be more careful about sports arena crab dip.)
