Speaking at an event promoting the 2014 World Cup hosted at the Brazilian embassy, French sports minister Valerie Fourneyron confused Brazilian Ronaldo with Cristiano Ronaldo — the younger Portuguese star named after Ronald Reagan. Adding to the embarrassment was the fact that the Ronaldo with two World Cup winner's medals and two Ballon d'Or awards was standing right next to her when she did it.
Her goof-up was immediately met by murmurs from the crowd and she corrected herself while the ever affable Ronaldo quietly smiled beside her. Fourneyron continued on with her remarks, but you could tell that all Ronaldo was thinking was, "This is what happens when you've been retired for two long years. Everyone forgets."
