Nixa High (Nixa, Mo.) is home to one of Missouri's best football programs, complete with a rich tradition and devoted fans who aren't afraid of a friendly wager. On Wednesday, Nixa knocked off Branson High (Branson, Mo.) in a one-sided 49-13 rout to advance to the Class 5, District 5 playoff final.
The win was marked by a number of big plays, but none were as remarkable as a rather short completion to wide receiver Mason Tyndall, who found a way to hold on to one of the juggling catches of the year.
As you can see in the brief clip above, Tyndall held on to a pass from quarterback Dawson Mills despite losing the grab once and completing a 360-degree roll on the ground. Somehow the ball never touched the turf, and Tyndall was free to pop up and grab the loose ball, just before he was hit by a Branson defender and driven out of bounds.
A slower look at the catch reveals that it was the contact between Tyndall's elbow and turf which drove the ball out of his hands and up into the air. His twinkle toes routine along the sideline was good enough for him to earn a reception.
The win keeps the Eagles' season alive, which will give Tyndall and Mills more chances to hook up for big plays. None of them are likely to be as memorable as the one Tyndall grabbed on a Wednesday night in November.
