Mud prevents goal, helps keep team from advancing in Lithuanian Cup

Already up 1-0 in their Lithuanian Cup quarterfinal, Kruoja seemed ready to all but seal Zalgiris' elimination in the 64th minute. An excellent long pass found Kruoja's Ricardo Beniusio, who slotted the ball past the keeper as he slipped on the muddy pitch. But Zalgiris' best defender — a mud pit right in the center of the goalmouth — came up with the save, stopping the ball dead in its tracks and preventing a sure goal.

It's an occurrence that most anyone who has played on dodgy amateur pitches can relate to. The very best part of this moment, however, had to be the reaction of the kid standing right behind the goal. He goes from celebrating what he thinks is a certain goal to just standing there in disbelief with his arms dropping back down.

Making matters even worse for Kruoja is the fact that Zalgiris went on to score in the 89th minute and again during injury time to complete a shock comeback and win 2-1 to advance to the semifinals. The Kruoja players will never look at a mud puddle the same way again.
