Arkansas coach Bret Bielema isn't enamored about his team's hotel accommodations for Saturday's game at Ole Miss. The team is staying in Memphis, which is a little more than an hour north of Oxford (plus traffic) and kickoff for the game is at 11:21 a.m. local time.
“We’re staying in Memphis, got about an hour, hour and 10-minute drive,” Bielema said Wednesday during the SEC teleconference. “When you throw that in on the front end of an early morning kickoff, it leads to a really early morning. This is our third one so our kids are a little more well-versed, but that’s probably the only thing that jumps out to you with the location of some of these universities and the towns around them.
“It’s just not real convenient for the visiting team to have a hotel that’s within a reasonable driving distance. That’s a challenge, as is the early game, but it’s not something we can’t overcome.”
If it makes Bielema feel any better, it's not about finding a better travel agent. The Rebels stay in Tupelo before the game, which is an hour's drive as well. There just aren't any hotel rooms in Oxford for the demand of game weekends.
Arkansas hasn't overcome much in the SEC this season. Scratch that, Arkansas hasn't overcome anything. The Hogs are 0-5 and a 17 point underdog. Mississippi State visits Fayetteville next week, and that's Arkansas' best shot at preventing a winless conference season.
