Broncos coach John Fox was enjoying the bye week on a Charlotte area golf course when he started to feel ill and was taken to the hospital.

ESPN reported he had chest pains, and it was a suspected heart attack. A little while later, the team confirmed to NFL.com that it was not a heart attack.

The reports said that the team believes Fox will be OK. The Denver Post said he is undergoing additional tests. Here is the update from the Broncos PR chief, Patrick Smyth:

Here were the original reports from ESPN:

The 58-year-old coach will certainly be monitored closely going forward. Even if he is OK, as the team believes, Fox will have to weigh his overall health and any possible risk before returning to the long and difficult weeks a NFL coach puts in during the season.

The Broncos are 7-1 and one of the favorites in the AFC. The players and staff went from enjoying the bye to having concern over the health of their head coach.
