Quarterback Thad Lewis is doubtful for the Bills as they prepare to face the 8-0 Chiefs on Sunday

The last four weeks, the Chiefs have faced backup quarterbacks for the Titans (Ryan Fitzpatrick), Texans (Case Keenum) and Browns (Jason Campbell). And this week, 8-0 Kansas City will likely to face the Bills' fourth option at quarterback.

Kevin Kolb's season is done because of a concussion, rookie EJ Manuel is still recovering from a knee injury, and it looks like a rib injury will keep Thad Lewis out of the lineup on Sunday against the Chiefs. The Bills listed Lewis as doubtful on the injury report. That technically means he team believes there is a 25 percent chance that he plays, but players who are listed as doubtful very rarely play.

So the Bills will probably turn to undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel, who the Buffalo News reports took more first-team reps in practice than Matt Flynn this week. Tuel struggled so badly replacing injured Manuel in a game at Cleveland earlier this season, with a 31.2 passer rating, that the team decided it was a better option to promote Lewis from the practice squad and start him immediately.

That was the right move, as Lewis has played well in three starts. But he took a beating at New Orleans last week, and now is very likely to sit out a week.

Facing an undefeated Chiefs team that leads the NFL with 36 sacks isn't ideal for Tuel, but it's not like the Bills have better options.
