Vikings announce that Christian Ponder will start at quarterback again this week

(USA Today Sports Images)

At this point, it probably doesn't make much difference which quarterback starts for the Minnesota Vikings.

The answer for this week is Christian Ponder. Vikings coach Leslie Frazier announced that Ponder would start this week against Dallas, just as Ponder did last week in a blowout loss to the Packers. Josh Freeman, who the Vikings presumably signed to evaluate before the season is over, suffered a concussion in a horrible outing against the Giants two weeks ago. He was cleared to practice late last week but won't get the start.

The Vikings have tried three different quarterbacks and none of them have impressed. Ponder started the season under center but didn't play well. Matt Cassel got a quick look before the Vikings moved on again. Freeman was signed after he was cut by Tampa Bay, but was rushed into the lineup, played terribly, got hurt, and it's hard to tell what the Vikings want to do with him going forward. The Vikings are 1-6 this season, and the only question seems to be which quarterback they'll draft next year in the first round.

So it will be Ponder on Sunday, and that probably gives Frazier the best chance of winning a few games to save his job, if that's possible anymore.
