San Diego Chargers somehow find another way to lose, drop overtime game to Redskins

The San Diego Chargers might be the unluckiest team in football this year.

They were up huge on Houston in the season opener and somehow lost. They had the Titans beat in Week 3, until Tennessee got a long touchdown in the final seconds. And still, Sunday's 30-24 overtime loss at Washington might sting most for the Chargers.

Danny Woodhead appeared to score a go-ahead touchdown with 21 seconds left, but replay review showed he was out just short of the goal line. No big deal, San Diego had the ball on the half-yard line, first-and-goal with two timeouts left.

A first down run up the middle to the undersized Woodhead got nothing. Kind of a questionable call. Then a low-percentage fade to Antonio Gates on second down, instead of another run (again, San Diego had a timeout). That was incomplete. Questionable. Then another pass, a rollout to the right, was incomplete.

All of it, pretty questionable.

The Chargers kicked a field goal, a horribly disappointing result after being inside of the 1-yard line with three chances to punch it in. They never got the ball back.

Washington won the overtime toss, and thanks to a couple of big throws by Robert Griffin III to extend the drive, the Redskins drove down the field on their first drive and fullback Darrel Young plunged up the middle for the game-winning touchdown, his third of the game.

The Chargers could easily be 7-1. Somehow, they're 4-4. And their schedule gets tougher in the second half of the season.

It's quite possible San Diego will have a lot of regrets by the time the season is over, and maybe no bigger regret than not getting a touchdown at the end of regulation against the Redskins.
