Tulane special teams coordinator Barry Lamb on a medical leave of absence after issue during FAU game

Tulane special teams coordinator and linebackers coach Barry Lamb is out indefinitely after having a medical incident during Tulane's loss at Florida Atlantic on Saturday.

“We had a situation at the game. Coach Barry Lamb has a medical condition—he’ll be on a leave of absence for now, I don’t know (if it’s) indefinitely,” Tulane coach Curtis Johnson said. “I don’t know how long it will be. He’s on medical leave. Something happened during the game. It was a bunch of different things. I know he was dehydrated – that was one of the things but there were several other things. It looks like that is going around.”

Lamb, 57, left the game in the second half. He'll be replaced in the interim by former special teams coordinator Doug Lichtenberger. Lamb retired at BYU in 2010 because of health concerns. He broke his leg in 2004 near the Machu Picchu ruins in Peru and was in a motorcylce accident in the late 90s. He's currently in his second year at Tulane and also serves as assistant head coach.

Johnson declined to specify the health reasons for Lamb's absence.

"I don’t want to elaborate on a medical condition of a coach – really and truly I don’t know all the in’s and out’s about it,” Johnson said. "I just know he’s out and we miss him. The players miss him already. He didn’t look like he was coming back and I just pray for him and wish him the best.”
