Eagles will go back to Foles against Raiders with Vick banged up

Nick Foles (USA Today Sports Images) Now starting (again) for the Punxsutawney Philadelphia Eagles: Nick Foles.

Head coach Chip Kelly confirmed the news Wednesday morning at his press conference, after Foles sat out last week with a concussion.

Michael Vick, who was knocked out of last week's 15-7 loss to the New York Giants with a hamstring injury, likely will be out for this week's road game against the Oakland Raiders.

Matt Barkley, who struggled mightily in relief of Vick on Sunday, will back up Foles. That could mean that James Casey, a little-utilized tight end/H-back, will again be the Eagles' emergency quarterback if it gets to that.

Got it?

It's easy to shrug at the move based on Foles' horrific performance in the Week Seven start against the Dallas Cowboys, but he was progressing as a passer up to that point, throwing six touchdowns in his previous three games, only one of which he started.

Plus, this was clearly the most attractive option this week. The more the Eagles shuffle quarterbacks and the more they vacillate in their performance, the more fuel is poured on the fire of Kelly seeking different quarterbacks next season.

The Eagles are 3-5 and actually might be glad to go on the road. They are 0-4 at home, but 3-1 at other teams' venues. Foles' two career victories as a starter were both on the road — albeit both at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
