Thursday fantasy flier, Week 9: Tyler Eifert

You guys, my confidence in Thursday's flier has never been higher. I'm almost willing to guarantee that this week's add will produce for you at a useful level — minimum six standard fantasy points. The matchup works, the player is excellent. And Marvin Jones can't keep scoring all of Cincinnati's touchdowns, right?

No, of course he can't.

If you're a Vernon Davis or Orange Julius owner looking for a one-week rental, consider this rookie...

TE Tyler Eifert , Cin (20 percent owned) — Yeah, OK, I'm aware that Eifert has been quiet in two of the past three weeks. But he had his opportunities in the mauling of the Jets, drawing four targets, two of which were red-zone looks. This week, I'm expecting an end-zone spike from Eifert. (Or at least I'm hoping for it, because I'm starting him in three leagues.) He's facing a Miami defense that's allowed the second-most fantasy points to tight ends. The Dolphins have only allowed nine passing scores this season, but six have gone to TEs. Eifert should find himself with friendly matchups all evening, as AJ and Jones demand maximum attention. The 6-foot-6 Eifert is an inviting target in short-field situations, plus he's a legit downfield threat.

Check the tape on his 32-yard score against the Lions, then watch him work the seam for a gain of 60-plus against the Steelers in Week 2.

Clearly, Jermain Gresham remains a problem for Eifert. No argument there. The veteran is playing more snaps — he held a 49 to 33 edge last Sunday — and he hauled in a TD pass against the Jets in Week 8. But Eifert is the more talented, versatile receiver, and he gets chances every week. With an appealing matchup on deck (and half a dozen teams on bye), the rookie deserves consideration.

Trust me. I'm a guru.
