Florida Atlantic University head coach Carl Pelini has resigned from his position, ESPN’s Brett McMurphy is reporting, effective immediately.
Pelini, the former Nebraska defensive coordinator and brother of Cornhuskers coach Bo Pelini, was hired just last season and has a 5-15 overall record as FAU’s head coach. The news comes just three days before Florida Atlantic is scheduled to face off with Tulane.
Florida Atlantic is 2-6 on the season, and is coming off a rough 45-10 loss to Auburn last Saturday. Earlier in the year in a blowout loss to Miami, Pelini called for a spike on fourth down. The team’s two wins this season came against South Florida and UAB.
The timing of the move is curious, considering Pelini was hired so recently and with a game just four days away. FAU will hold a press conference at 4 p.m. to address the resignation.
