Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota graced the cover of Sports Illustrated this week with a picture of him running away from an unidentified opponent against a sea of Oregon yellow.
However, that picture is more than meets the eye.
As Nick Eaton of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer notes on his blog, that photo was taken during this year’s game at Washington – the College GameDay game – so the Oregon-heavy crowd was actually wearing Washington black and purple.
As we all know, Oregon has gotten into the habit of wearing entirely different uniform combinations for every single game. And the game in which the Ducks wore these all-white uniforms and chrome helmets with yellow feathers?
Yeah, that was the much-hyped “College GameDay” matchup with Washington on Oct. 12 at Husky Stadium.
In Seattle.
That’s right, Dawgs fans. Sports Illustrated photoshopped you to look like Ducks fans.
Wow, is that salt in the wound or what? Not only did Washington fans have to endure 45-24 loss to the Ducks, several also were Photoshopped out of probably their one chance to be on a Sports Illustrated cover.
Sad Trombone.
We didn’t have any luck finding the exact picture they used for this cover, but here’s one from the Oregon-Washington game just for reference.
