Getty Images Teemu Selanne was in the wrong place at the wrong time. After Hampus Lindholm dumped the puck into the Philadelphia Flyers' zone, Selanne and Emerson Etem both chased Luke Schenn into the corner. Etem collided with Schenn and the Flyers defenseman's stick went up and knocked Selanne in the mouth:
The 43-year old Selanne did not return to the game and he will be out of the Ducks' lineup for two weeks. According to the team, he'll return to Anaheim where he'll undergo oral surgery. Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register Tweets that the errant stick cost Selanne "four or five" teeth and he needed 40 stitches.
Selanne is just two games away from becoming the 33rd player in NHL history to reach the 1,400 games played mark and six goals behind Jaromir Jagr for 10th all-time. Fortunately he'll be back soon enough and it's not an injury that would threaten to end his final season not on his own terms.
