Given everything that had transpired on the path to a new beginning for the Sacramento Kings, you kind of figured that the team and its fans would have something of an emotional opening to the 2013-14 season on Wednesday night. But what new owner Vivek Ranadivé and company put together to introduce the new season went — to me, at least — above and beyond the call of duty in matching the cathartic, celebratory tone of the times in Northern California.

I'll be honest: I got chills at the reaction to Ranadivé saying "your team." What a cool moment for a fan-base and region that 100 percent deserves it.
All that and a win over the Denver Nuggets in the super-cool commercial-free broadcast that saw Mayor Kevin Johnson hilariously give NBA Commissioner David Stern a hard hat? Pretty perfect start to the year, Sacramento. Savor it.
