Bucs coach Greg Schiano trying figuring out how to utilize Darrelle Revis’ talents

Cornerback Darrelle Revis was a four-time Pro Bowler before he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to this season.

Revis was once known as the NFL’s best cornerback. He was so good, the term “Revis Island” was used to describe the receivers he locked up every week. Revis’ talents were so colossal, Tampa Bay traded away a first-round pick and rewarded him with a six-year deal worth $96 million, which made Revis the highest paid cornerback in NFL history.

There is only one problem.

Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano is still unsure how to use one of the NFL's most talented cornerbacks.

Revis has played primarily in zone coverage schemes, but Schiano is contemplating putting the cornerback in more man and press coverages after an 0-7 start. You know, the same coverages his excelled in with the New York Jets prior to joining Tampa Bay.

“We need to make sure we’re accentuating our best players, putting them in the best position to make plays better than we have,’’ Schiano told Roy Cummings of The Tampa Tribune. “That’s something I’ve looked at hard, and I know our coaches have looked at it as well.’’

So let’s get this straight.

Schiano watched Revis’ games with the New York Jets and decided to do something different? Isn't that like acquiring LeBron James and asking him to play a half-court offense and never run a fast-break?

Either Revis is not the same player he once was or Schiano is wasting this cornerback’s talents.

Regardless, Schiano should have figured it out before Revis joined Tampa Bay.
