Jerry Jones says Brian Waters done for season, dealing big blow to Cowboys’ offensive line

Hailed as a savior for a downtrodden Dallas Cowboys offensive line, Waters, 36, emerged from his yearlong NFL hiatus to start five of the seven games he played this season despite not having a training camp. And Waters played well, too, at right guard.

But after suffering injuries to his knee, triceps and ribs in the Cowboys' final-minute loss to the Detroit Lions, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones declared Waters out for the season. Jones told 105.3 The Fan that Waters' triceps was the most serious of the lot and the one that put him down for the count.

No question, this is a big blow to the Cowboys' offensive line. All signs point to Mackenzy Bernadeau returning to the starting lineup, in Waters' spot.

“[Bernadeau] started for us the entire year last year and played well, came in and played about 20 snaps and played well yesterday,” Jones said. “Then, we’ll look to what we do with depth off our practice squad.”

As for the six-time Pro Bowler Waters, his career might be done. He sat out all of 2012, at odds with the New England Patriots over his contract status, and the Cowboys had to talk Waters into playing this season.
