Raiders defensive coordinator Jason Tarver fined by NFL for giving officials the middle finger

It did not take long for the NFL office to inform Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator Jason Tarver his actions this past Sunday were out of line.

Tarver gave NFL officials the middle finger twice during a 21-18 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The coach became agitated after Oakland cornerback Mike Jenkins was flagged for hitting a defenseless receiver (Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell) with 8:54 to play in the third quarter. The flag eventually was picked up, but Tarver responded with two middle finger gestures to show his disapproval.

As a result, Tarver was fined by the NFL this past Monday, according to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport.

Tarver apologized for the way he expressed his frustrations prior to the fine. He described his response as being in the "heat of the moment" and regretted taking attention away from Oakland’s victory.

If Tarver’s response can inspire Oakland’s defense to play well – five sacks and two interceptions against Pittsburgh– the team should consider creating a ‘fine jar” for their coach.
