Shane Victorino scratched from Game 4 lineup because of lower back tightness

(Big League Stew)

ST. LOUIS — The Boston Red Sox won't have outfielder Shane Victorino in the lineup for Game 4 of the World Series because of tightness in his back, as first reported by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Instead, Daniel Nava will move up to second in the batting order and over to right field on defense. Jonny Gomes will play left and bat fifth. In the short term, this might not be so bad for Boston.

Victorino is batting .188 in the postseason and is 0 for 10 in the World Series, swinging exclusively right-handed because of another physical issue. In addition, Nava (a switch hitter) batting left-handed in the No. 2 spot against St. Louis Cardinals starter Lance Lynn could be a boost for the Red Sox. Lynn has struggled against lefties. The move obviously weakens Boston's bench and the defense in the outfield isn't as reputable, either.
